Faced with aging facilities and inadequate space,
North Middleton Township commissioned SGS to design an
11,060 square foot administration building and a 23,512 square
foot public works building.
The entrance is clearly marked by a contemporary
interpretation of a classical portico that has strong pronounced
columns and supports a sleek, well
proportioned pediment that stretches forward to meet the public.
The administration building houses the public
meeting room, offices, and the police department. The energy
efficient design incorporates brick veneered six-inch walls with
high insulation levels, efficient casement windows, zoned gas
heating, and a southwestern orientation to maximize solar gains on
the site.
The public works building contains parking and
repair facilities for township vehicles and offices for the
supporting staff. Heat recovery was used with gas radiant heat to
keep energy use and air infiltration at a minimum and provide
comfort to the employees.
